Research Log Entry 1
Today being the first day in the library class I learned a lot of new things and got the chance to recall some of the things I already know. Some of the things I'm familiar with are; what does http stand for, what to type in the search box, and that when we write a research paper we always have to apply principles of information ethics. What was new to me today was that if I type in structure of atoms or "structure of atoms" in the search box I'd get different results even though the keywords are exactly the same. Another thing I learned was that the site most likely to be linked the most pops up in the first few pages. Lastly, I learned that when I am doing a research assignment and I choose the web as one strategy for my search there are 3 important elements I need to consider. 1. Check the advisor 2. What type of context is it 3. Is the source reliable or not. Thoughts I have about exploring the web is I think that the web has all the answers to my questions. For example, I type in a word in the search box and thousands of results show up just for that word. All I have to do is keep looking for the right context, I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the thousands of result my question will be answered.
